"Fenêtre en hiver 1" is the first piece in a series of three abstract canvases inspired by the first snowfall in Métabetchouan. The artist's studio, overlooking the municipal park, serves as an ideal vantage point for capturing the subtle changes in the landscape throughout the seasons.
This painting explores the sense of calm and wonder that the arrival of winter evokes. The thick textures and wintry hues evoke the enveloping whiteness of fresh snow. Upon closer inspection, an unusual detail is revealed: a piece of cheesecloth, draped like a window curtain, is incorporated into the composition. It is embedded in the layers of marble powder, bringing a soft and surprising materiality to the surface.
This work delicately combines abstraction, visual poetry and sensory memory, conveying an intimate experience of the silent beauty of winter.
