This work was born from the memories of Kathleen Roby's trip to Vietnam in the spring of 2026. During a hike in the mountains of Sapa, in the northwest of the country, the artist met Little Chi, her young guide, from one of the indigenous communities of the region.

In this spectacular landscape, greens dominate: terraced rice paddies, lush vegetation, and colorful houses appear and disappear in the mountain mist. Inspired by this atmosphere and by Little Chi's warm personality, Kathleen Roby creates a composition where greens mingle with pinks, blues, and touches of red, like a human presence at the heart of the landscape.

The markings, collages, writing, and symbols that traverse the canvas also evoke the conversations that accompanied this hike. Behind the beauty of the landscapes, Little Chi reveals a much more fragile reality, marked by poverty and the risks that some young women in these communities may face. "Aux couleurs de Little Chi" thus becomes a poignant tribute to an encounter, to a young woman, and to the strength of those who persevere despite the obstacles.
