Décembre is a work created on a cherry wood panel during a stormy winter day in Métabetchouan. It was born from the artist's wonder at the arrival of the first snows, when the north winds stirred the trees visible from his studio window. This creation evokes a hushed and almost magical atmosphere, experienced sheltered from the cold, in the silent solitude of the studio, observing nature in motion.
The panel's surface was prepared using multiple layers of materials. Collages, marble dust, and successive layers of acrylic paint create a rich, controlled texture. Despite this density, the artist deliberately opted for a limited color palette, dominated by a warm white reminiscent of the enveloping presence of snow. Discreet touches of pastels and graphite pencils reveal themselves upon close observation, unveiling subtle details hidden within the material.
The work deliberately stops short of any excess, suggesting a moment of waiting, a suspended silence, like the prelude to a new season. The signature is intentionally omitted from the front, affirming a minimalist approach and leaving ample room for the viewer's free interpretation of the composition.
