In this work, Kathleen Roby, a contemporary abstract painter , evokes a profoundly memorable moment from her trip to Vietnam. During a stay on a peninsula near Hoi An, she discovered a bridge illuminated by numerous multicolored lanterns, where the bright sunlight blended with the blue of the sea and the lush vegetation.

It was also there that she met Nga, a young Vietnamese woman whose generous smile and great kindness transcended the language barrier. From this encounter was born a very special bond, which the artist describes as that of a "little sister of the soul".

In NGA ET LES ĐÈN LÔNG, the color red evokes Nga's warm personality through an abstract interpretation of lanterns, emblematic of Vietnam. Deep pinks, ethereal whites, and touches of ochre convey the light and atmosphere of these precious moments. A work about encounter, generosity, and the universal language that can emerge beyond words.
