Kathleen Roby, a contemporary abstract painter, presents Les crépuscules de Métabetchouan I , a work on paper that opens a series of three paintings inspired by the last rays of daylight on Lake Saint-Jean, in Quebec.


 In this work, the light does not correspond to the sunset itself, but to the light that remains as the day begins to fade. The landscape then seems to dissolve, leaving only an impression, a memory made of veils of pink, ochre, gold, milky whites, and deep grays.


 The traces of writing that traverse the composition evoke fragments of words or memories carried away by the wind. Marble dust, pigments from Morocco, acrylics, pastels, and pencils are layered to create a rich, delicate, and vibrant texture.


 With this series, Kathleen Roby pays homage to the unique sunsets of Métabetchouan and the light that reflects off the vast expanse of Lake Saint-Jean. The very name Métabetchouan, of Innu origin and associated with the "current that flows into the lake," reinforces the connection between the land, the water, and the light that permeates this work.
