Kathleen Roby, a contemporary abstract painter, presents Les crépuscules de Métabetchouan II , the second work in a series of three paintings inspired by the last rays of daylight on Lake Saint-Jean, in Quebec.


 In this work, the light seems to linger after sunset. Shades of ochre, gold, pink, orange, and gray overlap in a composition where the landscape appears to gradually dissolve. The artist's materials and gestures suggest a feeling rather than a specific place: that of a landscape that now exists only in memory.


 The traces of writing and spontaneous lines that traverse the surface evoke fragments of thoughts or words carried away by the wind. The different layers of material give the work a particular depth, between light, movement, and memory.


 With this series, Kathleen Roby pays homage to the unique sunsets of Métabetchouan and the light that unfolds across the vast expanse of Lac Saint-Jean. The name Métabetchouan, of Innu origin and interpreted as "the stream that flows into the lake," echoes this intimate connection between water, land, and light.
 The twilights of Metabetchouan II thus invite us to rediscover, in a free and sensitive abstraction, the fleeting impression left by the very last glimmers of the day.
