Kathleen Roby, a contemporary abstract painter, presents Quiet Matter I , the first in a series of three works born spontaneously from the exploration of an unusual color palette on a small format.

In this minimalist composition, the artist allowed herself to be guided by a great freedom of gesture, giving a central place to the power of magenta pink and the contrasts it creates with the more muted shades of grey, black and earth.

Despite its bold, colorful presence, Quiet Matter I exudes a surprising restraint. The title, deliberately chosen in English, reflects this tension between the raw power of the material and the tranquility that pervades the work. Wood ash and rust play a crucial role, lending the composition a depth that transcends mere aesthetic appeal.

Kathleen Roby enjoys working with materials that have already lived and carry within them a memory. Ash is what remains of fire. Rust is what remains of time. These natural materials occupy an important place in her artistic approach, alongside pigments from Morocco and lava powder from Iceland.

Through Quiet Matter I , matter thus becomes a form of language. It participates in this artistic identity that Kathleen Roby has been building for several years, where natural materials do not only serve to evoke a landscape or a place, but become a true signature.
