Kathleen Roby, a contemporary abstract painter, presents Quiet Matter II , the second work in a series of three paintings born almost by chance, during the exploration of an unusual color palette on a small format.

In this composition, the artist gives prominence to white and breathing spaces, around which masses of magenta, pink, ochre, and brown unfold. The contrasts between the areas of color, the spontaneous gestures, and the traces of writing lend the work a presence that is both assertive and delicate.

As its title suggests, Quiet Matter II is based on a paradox: a material that possesses real strength, yet expresses itself in stillness. Wood ash and rust bring their own story to the composition. They introduce an organic and temporal dimension that contrasts with the intensity of the magenta pink.

Kathleen Roby enjoys working with materials that have already lived and carry within them a memory. Ash is what remains of fire. Rust is what remains of time. These natural materials are an integral part of her approach and contribute to defining her unique artistic signature.

Through Quiet Matter II , the artist continues his exploration of a free and intuitive abstraction, where pigments, materials, and gestures meet without seeking to represent a specific place. Here, matter itself becomes the subject: it suggests, evokes, and leaves room for interpretation.
