With Derniers jours d'automne 5, Kathleen Roby concludes her series dedicated to late blooms. For this final piece, she chose paper as her support, favoring an earthy palette punctuated with deep blues. This chromatic approach, different from the four previous works, reinforces the feeling of a cycle gently coming to an end.
Textures—marble dust, fibers, collages, and pigments—mingle with gestural lines to evoke the fragility of the final moments of bloom. Shades of brown, sand, ochre, and turquoise overlap like echoes of the earth, the air, and the autumn light. This fifth work offers a sensitive and harmonious conclusion, marking the transition between the last breaths of summer and the arrival of winter.
The exceptionally mild autumn of 2025 in Quebec offered the artist a rare inspiration, allowing him to capture those fleeting moments when nature still holds a little warmth before fading away.
